KAPIA

KAPIA is a micro-architecture designed to transform a simple point of passage into a space for pause, observation, and reflection. Located on the Sainte-Thérèse du Québec footbridge, the work was born from a latent spatial condition: two fixed benches at the bridge's center. We chose to build on this potential, designing a pavilion that frames the space, offers shelter, and heightens perceptual engagement. Entirely built in Douglas fir, the structure is inspired by the kapia on Ottoman bridges, conceived as places for dialogue. The canopy is clad in mirrored dibond (mirrored architecture), which captures and reflects the colors of the sky and water. The geometry is minimal and light, resting delicately on the existing infrastructure in a reversible way. KAPIA is a functional sculpture, a suspended threshold inviting passersby to slow down and experience public space as something porous, generous, and alive.
