CARAPACE

CARAPACE A micro-architecture designed as a cabin (shelter) for artists-in-residence. Located in the UNESCO protected landscape of Thuin (Hanging Gardens), the structure is suspended between two historic terraces and was built without mechanical means. The sculpture features three levels of finish: outside, large burnt beams (shou-sugi-ban) form an expressive, archaic skin; the larch cladding defines a monolithic volume; the white interior offers tranquility for creation. The project used reclaimed materials (beams and local slate) recovered from the demolition of the old city casino, following upcycling principles.
